Preparing for the worst case – losing your pet
You think it will never happen and then it does – be prepared!
Keep a pet folder that contains a recent picture of your pet, collar description, most current rabies tag information and microchip data if available.

Steps to take if you’ve lost your pet or if you’ve found a pet
(all of the following apply to both losing and finding a pet)

Prepare a written description to include the following:

Name
-
Breed
-
Coloring
-
Sex
-
Identification (Collar, tags, markings)

Where and when last seen
-
Special medical information (medicine, blind, etc.)

Your contact information including cell phone if possible

Make signs with all the above info and picture if possible

Post in your neighborhood and in area where you suspect the pet was last seen

Contact local veterinarians (If you have FOUND an animal, the veterinarians will scan for micro-chipping at no charge)
