AND THE WINNERS ARE
Tradegy struck Warren County Sherrif's Department on Friday Morning, August 27, 2010, when Cpl Paul Fricke (who was also the Police Chief for Hawk Point, MO) was killed in a one car accident, while on duty, on Hwy 47 in Lincoln Co. Cpl Fricke was scheduled to play in today's softball tournment. The event started just shortly after 10am, which was 24 hours after the accident that took his life. Chaplain Davis started off the tournament with some words about Cpl. Fricke followed by prayer and a moment of silence. The National Anthem was beautifully sung by Chelsea Weber, Daughter of Kim and Eric Weber of Wright City. Eric is a firefighter in St. Peters, Mo. The First Pitch was thrown out by Cpl. Fricke's girlfriend, Windy Ray. The tournament was double elimination and there were three teams: Warren County Sheriff's Department, Warren County Fire Department and the Wright City Fire Department. The first game of the the tournament was between the Guns(Warren County Sheriff's Dept. and Hoses-Wright City Fire). The GUNS had t-shirts made for this event. Cpl. Fricke's shirt and ballcap, which was signed by the team, was placed on the fence by the dug out. Whenever a team mate went to bat, they touched the shirt. When a game ended, the losing team came over and touched the shirt. It was a very touching tribute to one of their own, who should have been on the field with them. And in many ways he was. The Sheriff's department lost their first game to Wright City Fire Department. They then had to play Warrenton Fire Department and they won. The Wright City Fire then played Warrenton Fire Department who lost and were this years recipients of the "Crying Towel". Back on the field were Wright City Fire and Warren County Sheriff's department. The Sheriff's Department won this game. A final game was needed. The men and women on both teams were exhausted and had been playing in the hot sun all day long. This was the fourth game for both teams. But Warren County Sheriff's had an angel on the field with them and they won the last game, making them the tournament winners, giving them bragging rights for 2010. It should be noted, that the Sheriff's dept had been holding onto the "Crying Towel" that they "won" in 2008. The First Place Trophy and Crying towel switched hands this year.

It was a great day. The weather was beautiful. The food and beverages provided by CCAC hit the spot. CCAC would like to thank Warren County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wright and Kurt Keohoe for officiating today's tournment. Keeping score and MCing for the day were Todd VanZuyen, Fire Marshal/ Acting Asst. Chief for Wright City Fire and Robyn McNew, CCAC Member and Guns & Hoses 2010 Event Coordinator. We would also like to thank the Wright City Parks Department for allowing us to host this years event at their park. A BIG Thank You to all the CCAC Officers and Member/Volunteers who tirelessly work to help make the dream of building and operating the animal shelter in Warren County a reality.
